About Me

My photo
In the last few years I have yearned for something more, something to push my creativity and challenge my mind. Through the 365 Project and Photography I have found a passion that has filled a hole in my heart. A sense of being and a meaning to my life. I hope my pictures live on forever even if only through my children and my blog.

Self Portrait

1/20, f9.0, ISO 800, Focal Length 38.0mm, Tripod, No Flash
Well, I was not happy to find out that it is self portrait week. I hate pictures of myself. So I am going to do my best to not take picture that are of my face, we'll see how that goes. This picture was a lot of work. I used my umbrella lights, but still had to move them and actually didn't use the umbrella on one of them. My goal was to get a black background (luckily we have a chalk board wall in my daughter's room) yet maintain shadows on the skin & clothing, but not have any shadows on the wall. All of this had to be done while I positioned myself after I snapped the timer. I did have to crop the picture, but only slightly. I am very please with the results.

  1. How funny...I'm getting on to post mine and it I cut my face in 1/2 just like you did your body! We're on the same page - AGAIN! This is a GREAT picture, Suzanne! I am very impressed with the effect you achieved :) And, I had better see some pics of your face...suck it up!

  4. Thanks Carol. I did. He only let me take 1 shot, so I didn't get to fix the hard shadows on his face. He said he liked it, so I guess if he's happy it's OK.
