About Me

My photo
In the last few years I have yearned for something more, something to push my creativity and challenge my mind. Through the 365 Project and Photography I have found a passion that has filled a hole in my heart. A sense of being and a meaning to my life. I hope my pictures live on forever even if only through my children and my blog.

Going to Hershey, PA for our family vacation and thought this was appropriate.

Flower Power

I attended a workshop on Flower Photography. The 1st hour was dedicated to how to get the best shot. The 2nd our we were to focus on 1 or 2 flower and try to get our best shot. The last hour we reviewed some of our shots. Here's my favorites.

#5 Bugs

I was trying to get a good shot of a bee and almost gave up because they seemed to be to fast for me, then "Grandpa" bee came buzzing by. He is like twice as big as the other bumble bees and moved a bit slower. Gave me a great opportunity for a good shot.

#4 Bugs

Almost didn't see these guys as the blended into the flower. Never realized how many different bugs we have in NC until now. Shot at the botanical gardens yesterday evening.

#3 Bugs

I thought this was a beetle, but my DD corrected me and told me it is a June Bug, either way I thought it looked pretty cool.

#7-2 Light

When I got to the Botanical Gardens this morning some of the flowers still had water droplets from the sprinkles. I loved how they caught the light.
1/400, f4.0, ISO 100, 2+ filter, SOOC, Cropped

#7 Light

I knew the quality of this shot would be in question since I had to shoot at 1600 ISO, but I liked the image. I decided to push the contrast in Photoshop and thought it gave a "painted" effect. The light is morning window light.

#5-2 Light

I decided to try some window lighting.  I usually don't use effects, but decide to have some fun since this is my 2nd post for today.
1/60, f4.5, ISO 1600, Converted to B&W in raw, under-exposed and upped the contrast. Added a gradient map and sponge effect in Photoshop.

#5 Light

After my DD's 8th grade promotion we stopped by the reservoir and she let me take some pictures of her. The only bad thing was it was in noon sun.
1/2500, f4.5, ISO 400 (Forgot to change ISO from when a cloud went over head).

#4 Light

I took this with the kiwi on an overhead projector, letting the light shine through. I purposely over exposed and love the results.

#3 Light

Worked on backlighting. Hard to get around here with all the trees.

#2 Light

I shot my daughter's 8th grade graduation portraits today, so I am using them to show different lighting conditions. I hope you all don't mind. I don't really have much time to shoot anything else tonight. I would like cc on skin tone, she is a little sun burnt, so the slight red tinge is actually correct.

Side-light on her face. 1/640, f3.5, ISO 400
Shade. 1/60, f4.0, ISO 100 (should have gone to ISO 200 and used a faster shutter speed)

Back-lighting. 1/800, f5.0, ISO 400 (Hardest lighting set-up for me)

Cloudy. 1/200, f4.0, ISO 100

#1 Light

I walked outside this morning and liked how this spider web caught the sun light. I'm undecided on how it turned out. I do like how the web vanishes into the bokeh background.

I think this crop looks better.
